STAFF REPORT ISB: The International Conference highlighting Agriculture, Food Security, and Biotechnology was organized in Egypt. The conference aimed to build and foster linkages in RandD, SandT organizations specialized in agriculture, food security, and biotechnology sectors.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Mohamed Hashem, Vice President for Research Affairs and International Relations at NRC. He considered it an honor for Cairo to host that important event, and commended its relevance for addressing vital regional and global issues of agriculture, food security and biotechnology.

Ms. Huma Balouch, Sr. Assistant Director (Programmes) COMSATS, Dr. I. E. Qureshi, Executive Director COMSATS, remarked that the developing countries were increasingly adapting to agricultural biotechnology in order to fulfill their needs including those pertaining to food quality, food security, and agriculture. He said that the event was important in encouraging exchange of ideas related to modern biotechnological approaches to meet sustainable agriculture and food security challenges in the developing world.

The two day conference was jointly organized by COMSATS, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), and Centre for Environment and Development for the Arab Region and Europe (CEDARE). This conference also provided a platform for researchers, scientists, technologists, and academicians to interact with each other and exchange knowledge.

A large number of participants including delegates, scientists, researchers, technologists from reputed RandD and organizations working in agri, food and biotechnology sector participated in the conference.
