Staff Report FSD: An international seminar on “Innovative strategies for enhancing production of food legumes” was held recently in Faisalabad. The objectives of the seminar were to identify, assess and find out ways for opting innovative strategies and methodologies for the development of production of food legumes in Pakistan.


University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) organized the seminar in which considerable number of delegates, agriculture and food scientists, academicians, faculty members and students participated.


Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arshad, Dean Agriculture Department UAF while addressing to the seminar said that pulses could be grown on relatively less fertile land and requires less water.


Dr. Abid Mehmood, Director General Agriculture Research said that the country was facing challenges including food insecurity, malnutrition and low productivity.


Prof. Dr. Kadambot Siddique from University of Western Australia also participated in the seminar. He emphasized on the need for innovative strategies to foster the yield of food legumes. He further said that there was a requirement to devise and apply more environment based approaches so to address the issue of malnutrition.”
