STAFF REPORT ISB: Minister of State for ITandT Anusha Rehman has inaugurated Women Development and Empowerment Centre (WDandEC).
The opening of the centre established by Pakistan Baitul Maal (PBM) on Lehtrar Road here marked the International Women Day.
The centre will offer advanced computer courses, besides skill training of beautician, embroidery, sewing and cooking to women belonging to marginalized segments of the federal capital and adjacent areas.
A well-equipped IT lab, sponsored by Telenor Pakistan, has also been set up in the centre with 20 computers where highly trained staff will impart advanced training to girls.
Addressing the opening ceremony, the minister said that no country could progress without equal participation of women in nation building.
She said a project – ICT for Girls – was also on the cards, wherein girls, who could not continue their studies after matriculation, would be facilitated to earn livelihood.
Under the programme, the girls would be able to work at home through computers and give financial support to their families, the minister stated.
The project would be launched soon, she announced. She said the government had taken a number of steps to ensure womens right for inheritance and their representation in policy-making.
