STAFF REPORT LHR: The Institute for Career and Personal Development (ICPD) conducted a 3.5 workshop on “Best Global Agricultural Practices for Sugarcane”.

The event was undertaken in collaboration with the “Sugarcane Research and Development Board (SRDB), Punjab” and the Regional Training Center (RTC), Mauritius.

Dr. Suman Seeruttun – a global expert in sugarcane best practices- was the trainer for the event, which was attended by a number of sugar mill professionals, mill owners and progressive agriculturists.

The overarching aim of the workshop was to disseminate knowledge amongst sugarcane experts within the Punjab region in order for them to further transfer this knowledge to sugarcane growers and agriculturists thereby increasing the productivity of the sector as a whole.

During the workshop, a number of cutting-edge agricultural practices were introduced to the audience, while the problems and challenges prevalent within the Pakistani sugarcane sector were also discussed in length.

Local experts such as, Dr. Muhammad Afzal from the Ayub Agricultural Institute, Faisalabad were also present for the 3.5 day event, and over the course of the workshop an understanding concerning the importance of holistic farming practices as opposed to solely concentrating on experimentation of varieties was reached.
