STAFF REPORT IBD: Experts at a workshop stressed the need to include agriculture as a subject in school curricula and initiate continuous education for farmers through mass media, short courses, visits and exchange that would create a better understanding about the latest agriculture technology.


The workshop titled “Youth and Agriculture; Challenges and Opportunities” and “NARS-CGIAR Interactive Session for Strengthening Partnership in South Asia” was recently organized by Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) in collaboration with Asia Pacific Association for Agriculture Research Institutions (APAARI) here in Islamabad.


International delegates from 26 different countries, agricultural experts, UN officials, international donors participated in the workshop.


“Asia-Pacific region has a great asset in the form of youth population which can be employed to attain sustainable agricultural development for food, nutrition and livelihood security,” said Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Sikandar Hayat Bosan during the workshop.


He said that there is a dire need to streamline close collaboration amongst stakeholders in the field of agricultural innovations advancements and technologies in order to achieve sustained food production systems.


In his remarks, Chairman PARC Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad expressed his gratitude to the APAARI and other donors for their support to organize the event in Pakistan.
