STAFF REPORT LHR: The business community has warned the PPP government that annoyance and anger of the masses would swell if it does not ensure resolution of the loadshedding problem which has forced closure of majority of their industrial units.
“Over 20-hour loadshedding daily has forced more than 300 industrial units in the Lahore Township Industrial Area to close down their operations,” said Acting Chairman PIAF Nadir Kamal Osman, Chairman Autoparts Manufacturers and Exporters Association and Chairman Lahore Township Industries Association Iftikhar Bashir, in a statement.
They said that due to the governments wrong policies and mismanaged affairs, the industry has almost collapsed and industrialists are left with no other option but to stage protest. According to them, had right steps been taken well in time to enhance the power generation, the situation would have been far better.
They said that Lahore Township Industrial Estate is the largest industrial area of the province which provides employment to near 40,000 people while paying billion rupees to the national exchequer.
They said that this industrial area is facing massive unannounced loadshedding of gas and power, which is hitting industrial production very hard.
