STAFF REPORT KHI: Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Dr Javaid Leghari has stressed upon the universities and scientists to further expedite their research work, with qualitative education for meeting inevitable obstacles in progress and prosperity of the country.
“Accessibility to youth and womenfolk towards higher education and qualitative research are very much essential for effective social safety nets to prevent vulnerable population from socio-economic disparities,” Dr Javed said while addressing the two-day seventh International Symposium on Evolution through Innovation in Medical Science organised by Liaqat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) at Jamshoro campus.
According to him, though the national universities have made wonderful performance in the field of research work, yet still there is a room for improvement and intensifying pace of research work to meet out socio-economic problems.
“Still we lack in accessibility to higher education having only the rate of 8 per cent whereas Indonesia has gained this accessibility up to 28 per cent, Malaysia 31 per cent, Turkey 38 per cent and developed countries from 60 to onward.
He said that HEC is focusing on qualitative education and research work by facilitating universities in terms of their financial and technical assistance’s, it has increased research budget from Rs 800 million to 1.2 billion.
