STAFF REPORT IBD: Siemens Pakistan and LUMS have agreed to establish a Smart Grid laboratory in Lahore which will serve as a platform for NTDC/DISCOs to bring their challenges, Siemens to share technological systems, whereas LUMS SSE engineers to develop Smart Grid solutions customized to local requirements.
This was disclosed during a lecture on Smart Grid solutions and renewable energy for Pakistans growing energy needs. The lecture was organized by tThe Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, LUMS School of Science and Technology in collaboration with Siemens.
On the occasion, Aqeel Ahmed, Vice President Smart Grid Siemens Pakistan informed that one of the Smart Grid concepts is the Demand Management System (DMS) which require that Load follows generation. This concept is not new to many Pakistanis, as we use residential power generator during loadshedding; during that time we curtail our load requirements accordingly.
He said that certain solutions can be implemented for effective use of electricity without employing technology. He also also highlighted the importance of smart grid solutions in Pakistan and the role of engineering institutes and Siemens in this regard.
Irfan Ahmed, Head of Renewable Energy Systems, Siemens Pakistan, gave presentation on the potential of Solar and Wind Energy in the country and its integration into existing electrical network of Pakistan. He discussed Important Issues and presented various solutions.
