Staff Report LHR: The Academic Council of Government College University (GCU), Lahore has recently sanctioned seven new postgraduate (PG) programmes. The approval was the outcome of the deliberations made in 15th Annual Meeting presided by Professor Dr. Muhammad Khaleeq ur Rahman, VC GCU. The PG programmes include highly modern professional fields.
In addition, the rules and regulations, eligibility criteria of admission, number of seats, credit hours, and fee structure were also endorsed by the academic council of the University. The approved PG programmes include MSc Chemistry, Certificate in hypnosis aimed at professionals, and postgraduate diploma (PGD) in child and adult psychotherapy. Dr. Muhammad Akhtar Farrukh, Secreatary and Registrar of GCU academic council said, “The new PG programmes are presented before the Academic Council after the approval from concerned board of studies and board of faculties where the detailed planning, modern courses, national and international scopes and market studies for the new programmes are also discussed.”
Vice Chancellor Professor Rahman said, “Modern education has become more complex and multidisciplinary and it is not possible for a single department of a university to entail all the obligatory knowledge, equipment, and techniques, so this time the university’s Political Science and Law Departments have collaborated with the Chemistry Department, which was already offering MS Forensic Science, for launching a highly competitive, qualitative and international standard LLM in Forensic Justice programme. The Academic Council also decided that LLM would be an evening programme so that professional practicing lawyers could easily take admissions.”
Moreover, the Academic Council has also approved revised courses in curriculum of various existing academic programmes including MPhil Environmental Sciences, BSc (Hons) Biotechnology, BSc (Hons) Microbiology, MPhil Applied Physics, BSc (Hons) Physics, BA (Hons) Punjabi and MS Pharmaceutical Chemistry. Professor Rahman vowed that GCU will take best faculty to teach the newly approved programmes and courses.
