STAFF REPORT ISD: “Sharing information with the masses about the peaceful uses of nuclear power is need of the time and dissemination of this information in systematic way is now the duty of forums like Pakistan Nuclear Society”, said Dr. Ishfaq Ahmad, former Chairman of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC), while addressing the investiture ceremony of newly-elected council of Pakistan Nuclear Society (PNS) at the COMSTECH auditorium, here in Islamabad.
Newly-elected President of PNS Dr. Syed Javaid Khurshid, in his welcome address, thanked all guests and PNS members for their presence. He briefed about the Pakistan Nuclear Society and told the audience that PNS was established in 1992 to promote the awareness and understanding of the peaceful application of nuclear science, technology and allied disciplines in Pakistan.
Talking about the objectives of the society, Dr. Syed Javaid Khurshid said, “The society is a credible advocate for the advancement and promotion of nuclear science, technology and allied disciplines in the country”. He added that society can be useful to promote nuclear energy as part of energy mix and reduce greenhouse gas emission, bridge research and academia in this field, increase the visibility of nuclear research in the country, increase the political support for providing projects e.g. in agriculture, health and energy and to aware the society about the paramount importance of this field. He sought support for promotion of the society from the scientific organizations as well as from the individuals.
The newly-elected Council consists of Dr. Syed Javaid Khurshid - President; Dr. Ishtiaq Hussain Bokhari - Vice President, Ms. Farhat Waqar - General Secretary, Dr. Khalida Akhtar Gill - Finance Secretary, Dr. Arshad Mehmood, Dr. Rahatullah, Dr. Abid Aleem, Mr. Fawad Mohy-ud-Din, and Mr. Zeesahn Ahamad Siddiqui - Member Executive.
This august gathering was attended by a large number of members and senior officials from PAEC, NESCOM, KRL, PNRA, PSF, PAS, AIOU and other research and academic institutes.
