START REPORT KHI: The water resources of Pakistan are becoming

extensively scarce and there is a need to sensitize water conservation and underline

water governance issues of the country. The US-Pakistan Centre for Advanced

Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) organized seminar on ‘Water governance in

Pakistan’ to highlight and prompt the policy makers with the rapidly shrinking

water resources and storage capacity due to increasing consumption and climate

change impacts.

The seminar was co organized by Mehran University of Engineering &

Technology (MUET), Jamshoro and the University of Utah, USA.

MUET Vice Chancellor Dr Mohammad Aslam Uqaili was also present on the

occasion. He said that the newly established USAID-funded USPCAS-W will be

very helpful to resolve the impending water challenges of Pakistan through its

applied research and various other productive initiatives.

A the memorandum of understanding (MoU) was also signed between the MUET

and various institutions and agencies, including Pakistan Council of Research in

Water Resources (PCRWR), Sindh Irrigation Drainage Authority (SIDA) and

Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam.

researchers and general public participated in the seminar. The experts underlined

that the existing social, economic and administrative system of Pakistan lacks to

suffice the water conservation needs and serious efforts and policy shifts are
